But [the elder brother] was angry [with deep-seated wrath] and resolved not to go in. Then his father came out and began to plead with him AMP

And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him. KJV

And having called one of the servant [boys] to him, he began to ask what this meant. AMP

And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: KJV

And he said to him, Your brother has come, and your father has killed that [wheat-]fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and well. AMP

And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. KJV

So He told them this parable: AMP

And the Pharisees and the scribes kept muttering and indignantly complaining, saying, This man accepts and receives and welcomes [preeminently wicked] sinners and eats with them. AMP

And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. KJV

So he got up and came to his [own] father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved with pity and tenderness [for him]; and he ran and embraced him and kissed him [fervently]. AMP

And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. KJV

And the father said to him, Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. AMP

And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. KJV

Then when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father have enough food, and [even food] to spare, but I am perishing (dying) here of hunger! AMP

And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! KJV
