And although you at one time were estranged and alienated from Him and were of hostile attitude of mind in your wicked activities AMP

And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled KJV

For every wrongdoer hates (loathes, detests) the Light, and will not come out into the Light but shrinks from it, lest his works (his deeds, his activities, his conduct) be exposed and reproved. AMP

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. KJV

Are you not discriminating among your own and becoming critics and judges with wrong motives? AMP

Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? KJV

This [evil] persuasion is not from Him Who called you [Who invited you to freedom in Christ]. AMP

This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. KJV

What then do we conclude? Is the Law identical with sin? Certainly not! Nevertheless, if it had not been for the Law, I should not have recognized sin or have known its meaning. [For instance] I would not have known about covetousness [would have had no consciousness of sin or sense of guilt] if the Law had not [repeatedly] said, You shall not covet and have an evil desire [for one thing and another]. [Exod. 20:17; Deut. 5:21.] AMP

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. KJV

We know [positively] that we are of God, and the whole world [around us] is under the power of the evil one. AMP

And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. KJV

Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me. AMP

Beloved, do not imitate evil, but imitate good. He who does good is of God; he who does evil has not seen (discerned or experienced) God [has enjoyed no vision of Him and does not know Him at all]. AMP

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! AMP
