And suddenly, behold, there arose a violent storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered up by the waves; but He was sleeping. AMP

And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. KJV

But the boat was by this time out on the sea, many furlongs [a furlong is one-eighth of a mile] distant from the land, beaten and tossed by the waves, for the wind was against them. AMP

Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it? KJV

And He arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Hush now! Be still (muzzled)! And the wind ceased (sank to rest as if exhausted by its beating) and there was [immediately] a great calm (a perfect peacefulness). AMP

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. KJV

And they were filled with great awe and feared exceedingly and said one to another, Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey Him? AMP

And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? KJV

And a furious storm of wind [of hurricane proportions] arose, and the waves kept beating into the boat, so that it was already becoming filled. AMP

And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. KJV

And He said to them, Why are you timid and afraid, O you of little faith? Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great and wonderful calm (a perfect peaceableness). AMP

And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. KJV

Who alone stretches out the heavens and treads upon the waves and high places of the sea AMP

Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea. KJV

Thus says the Lord, Who gives the sun for a light by day and the fixed order of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, Who stirs up the sea's roaring billows or stills the waves when they roar--the Lord of hosts is His name: AMP
